Halloween seasonal symbol and Jack o’ Lantern
In North America and Canada, a pumpkin has become a Halloween seasonal symbol to celebrate on the eve of 31st October every year. Jack O' Lantern is carved and the festivities include parties, trick-or-treating and decorating homes with pumpkins and corn stalks. These big, orange and round features, drive people who celebrate this festival as a must buy item to be bought for a traditional pumpkin carving. Finding the right pumpkin will take you a half day shopping as this will be your kid’s family event to craft a chubby smiling pumpkin face that later, is sitting in front of your doorway or on the countertop table.
It is much easier to have a large pumpkin to be carved for fancy designs rather than a small pumpkin that works fine for carving a simple traditional faces. The secrets of beautiful Jack O' Lantern are pumpkin should be as smooth as possible, and free of scratches, dents or gouges. Don’t give up yourself if after hunting a perfect pumpkin, you found a tall narrow pumpkin that can be made to look spooky and ghost-like. Any shapes and colors would work great as long as you sculpture them carefully and patiently.
Subsequent to carving, this is the moment to light your Jack O' Lantern. There are many ways to illuminate your pumpkins either in an old time fashion, by using regular votive candles or in a modern way with a battery or an AC adapter. Some may prefer to light the pumpkins using votive candles in a clear glass candle holders since you could enjoy the original flame that comes from the candles. Most department and hardware stores are selling battery powered units to substitute no ease of lit the candles. They carry an artificial candle pumpkin light that flickers just like a real candle with its three super bright yellow, LED light bulbs. If you want the traditional looks of a flickering candle, but don’t take a risk of a real flame, these lights are for you!
You could also find the LED light bulbs where the light emitted changes between seven different colors, creating a very colorful Jack O' Lantern. Another option to glow your pumpkin is to use one or more glow sticks and place them inside the pumpkin. Although this method seems to support only short hours of lighting, you'll want to place your Jack O' Lantern in a very dark area for a haunted effect.
Since everybody is expecting to have some funs, food and games in that evening, some extra precautions should be taken when lighting and placing your Halloween Jack O' Lantern. Don’t forget to keep one or more fire extinguishers on hand and supervise the kids not to play with fire and candles. Happy Halloween!
